Smoking has been banned from the grounds of most hospitals in Wales.
In January, three North Wales NHS Trusts introduced loudspeaker messages to stub out smoking.
Even the lighting of a match in their vicinity will trigger an alarm and loudspeaker message telling them to stop. Now health boards in South Wales have followed suit.
The move comes on National No Smoking Day.
Now cancer based charity Tenovus has announced it would like to see an outright smoking ban in Wales. However, the Welsh Government doesn’t have the authority to put this motion into action.
One way to get around the hospital ban would be to use electronic cigarettes. The gadgets are not part of the ban on smoking in public places and can still be used in pubs and restaurants where traditional cigarettes are banned.
Pregnant celebrity Mum Stacey Solomon has turned to electronic cigarettes in an attempt to quit her smoking habit.
The winner of reality show I’m A Celebrity and X Factor finalist was recently snapped smoking whilst seven months pregnant.
She was reduced to tears during an interview on This Morning as she explained why she was still smoking.
She said: “At the end of the day, nothing that I can say makes it right. All I can say is that from the day I found out that I was pregnant, I have tried my best to give up. I completely understand why people would be angry, because for some people it’s uncomprehendable. “
The mother-of-one said she had cut back her habit since discovering she was pregnant with her second child but she was finding it difficult to abstain completely. She has now turned to e-cigarettes. The devices do not contain tobacco and normally contain nicotine infused water.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that their have been less premature births in Scotland since the country introduced a ban in 2006.
US heartthrob Johnny Depp’s been recently spotted using an electronic cigarette. The star of films including Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been a smoker of traditional cigarettes for years but he seems to be following the trend of other A-listers including Katherine Hiegl who have made the switch.
Depp used a Smart Smoker e-cig in the film The Tourist. His character can be seen using our device during a scene with Angelina Jolie whilst travelling on a train.
We were asked to send the electronic cigarette to Venice, on the set of the film.
The film makers sent a courier to pick up the e-cig and it seems as though Mr Depp liked the gadget!
Electronic cigarettes can be legally used anywhere and are not subject to the ban on smoking in public places which is making them popular amongst stars of the silver screen and members of the public alike!
