A man was stopped by security guards after he was spotted using an e cigarette in a shopping centre.
The overzealous guards didn’t realise that vaping in public is not banned. Traditional cigarettes cannot be smoked in public places such as pubs, restaurants and shops.
It’s claimed they were not aware of this legal loophole and they apprehended the man who was smoking an electronic cigarette while shopping for a pair of shoes.
The incident sparked a row between the two parties which resulted in the store manager being called to resolve the issue.
He told them that the man was breaking no law and could happily vape in public.
E cigarettes have helped a number of people quit traditional fags, that’s according to a recent studied carried out by researchers in Switzerland.
In an online survey of nearly 3,600 people, researchers from the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Geneva found that a large majority of the responders who had quit reported that e cigarettes helped them get off traditional cigarettes.
Indeed, 4 out of 5 said they feared they would go back to smoking if e cigs were banned.
Earlier this year the MHRA, which regulates medicines and healthcare products announced it would research e cigarettes further before reaching a decision about the regulation of the products.
As more and more people switch from traditional cigarettes to e cigs we can reveal it’s not just their health which could benefit.
There are environmental advantages to making the switch including a reduction in cigarette butt litter.
Discarding cigarette butts is the world’s greatest environmental litter problem and in most Western countries, it accounts for around 50% of all rubbish.
According to findings by Keep Britain Tidy, cigarette butt litter dramatically increases when indoor smoking bans are implemented.
In England, people have been banned from smoking in public places since 2007.
It can take 12 years for a cigarette butt to decompose so people who’ve switched to e cigs, including actor Johnny Depp, can rest assured that they’re stamping out a rising litter problem too.
