News reaches us from America that their Department of Transportation is considering banning the use of electronic cigarettes on commercial airlines.
More than 700 people commented on the proposal which is due to be decided by Summer 2012.
The proposal’s been put forward because of the increased promotion and use of electronic cigarettes.
The department has said that although it considers electronic cigarettes to be covered under the existing law banning smoking on aeroplanes, it intends to adopt a rule specifically banning them.
If the move goes ahead it could spell a problem for travellers who rely on the use of e cigs to calm their nerves during flights.
US heartthrob Johnny Depp’s been recently spotted using an electronic cigarette. The star of films including Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been a smoker of traditional cigarettes for years but he seems to be following the trend of other A-listers including Katherine Hiegl who have made the switch.
Depp used a Smart Smoker e-cig in the film The Tourist. His character can be seen using our device during a scene with Angelina Jolie whilst travelling on a train.
We were asked to send the electronic cigarette to Venice, on the set of the film.
The film makers sent a courier to pick up the e-cig and it seems as though Mr Depp liked the gadget!
Electronic cigarettes can be legally used anywhere and are not subject to the ban on smoking in public places which is making them popular amongst stars of the silver screen and members of the public alike!
Smoking e-cigarettes in the workplace has been banned in Boston, Massachusetts.
The ban also includes vaping in outdoor areas such as restaurant patios.
The Boston Public Health Commission says it’s made the decision to close a loophole and treat e-cigarettes like traditional cigs.
In recent years, e-cigarettes like the ones sold by Smart Smoker have grown in popularity and have been seen by some customers as a way to reduce their tobacco cravings.
The e-cigarettes allow users to inhale nicotine vapor without fire, smoke, ash, or carbon monoxide.
Smoking traditional cigarettes in public places such as work has been banned in England since July 1st 2007. However, there is no such ban regarding electronic cigarettes.
The new legislation was intended to cut deaths from second-hand smoke. At the time of the ban’s introduction, doctors estimated passive smoking kills more than 600 people a year.
However, many people have followed celebrities including Johnny Depp and switched their traditional fag for an electric one.
