Smoking e-cigarettes in the workplace has been banned in Boston, Massachusetts.
The ban also includes vaping in outdoor areas such as restaurant patios.
The Boston Public Health Commission says it’s made the decision to close a loophole and treat e-cigarettes like traditional cigs.
In recent years, e-cigarettes like the ones sold by Smart Smoker have grown in popularity and have been seen by some customers as a way to reduce their tobacco cravings.
The e-cigarettes allow users to inhale nicotine vapor without fire, smoke, ash, or carbon monoxide.
Smoking traditional cigarettes in public places such as work has been banned in England since July 1st 2007. However, there is no such ban regarding electronic cigarettes.
The new legislation was intended to cut deaths from second-hand smoke. At the time of the ban’s introduction, doctors estimated passive smoking kills more than 600 people a year.
However, many people have followed celebrities including Johnny Depp and switched their traditional fag for an electric one.
